THE BLACK

The story of Black is based on the true life story of Helen Keller. Michelle McNally (Rani Mukerji) who loses her eyesight and hearing a few months after birth and exists in a black world where she is isolated in the darkness of her own existence, trapped by her inability to see, hear and express.
She grows up becoming more and more frustrated by the black and dark world around her, making her a violent, uncontrollable eight-year old. Her parents, Paul and Catherine, are at their wits’ end trying to control her, until one day the light shines through the end of the tunnel. Debraj Sahai (Amitabh Bachchan) enters their lives, an elderly alcoholic teacher for the deaf and blind, Debraj sees himself as a magician and is a disillusioned eccentric man. He takes it upon himself to bring young Michelle into the light. He has harsh ways, very harsh ways actually though it is used for her long-term benefit. Through many good and hard times michelle becomes much more tame and almost completely not aggressive. After many years with Debraj, Michelle changes her life completely in those years. One day Debraj leaves Michelle to her much regret. Eventually she finds him again though this time it is he who needs her help. The story ends with Michelle attempting to cure Debraj.
Time Magazine (Europe) selected the film as one of the 10 Best Movies of the Year 2005 from across the globe.
GURU:
Guru has been described by Ratnam and others involved in the production as a film that is reflective of a man’s desire for ambition and success, and how times have changed from the period immediately after the country’s independence to the present. Some reports have speculated that this film is a biopic of, one of India‘s biggest Industrial tycoon, Dhirubhai Ambani. Like Guru, Ambani also had roots in Gujarat as the son of a schoolteacher, went abroad to work for the gas company Shell, and returned to India to import polyester. In addition, the surname “Desai” attributed to Guru in the movie is a common surname of the Anavil Brahmin caste to which Ambani belonged. There are also differences between the two stories. Ratnam has described Guru as inspired by stories both past and present.

In the film Abhishek Bachchan portrays Gurukant Desai, who resembles Dhirubhai Ambani, the owner of Reliance India. Dhirubhai traveled to Yemen in his early years to work from junjoi ; In the film, Gurubhai travels to Turkey to escape his father’s criticism.
Historically, the media war waged against Dhirubhai Ambani was fought by Ramnath Goenka‘s newspaper The Indian Express.
